In Liège, a team of 10 Street Nurses staff members supports people experiencing homelessness in highly vulnerable situations — every single day. This work is more necessary than ever: each night, hundreds of people sleep outside in our city. Since 2020, the situation has worsened: homelessness is on the rise while our resources are shrinking. By 2026, less than a quarter of our Liège budget will be structurally funded. Without additional support, some outreach rounds will be cancelled, care will be delayed, and housing access postponed.
Fighting homelessness in Liège: long-term field presence
At Street Nurses, we never give up. We meet people on the street, build trust, and accompany them step by step toward housing. Even in the most complex situations, we remain by their side. And once a home is found, we continue to support them to prevent relapse or isolation.
In 2024, our teams carried out 200 outreach rounds, nearly 400 visits in housing or institutions, and since 2019, over 30 people in Liège have found a home with our support. But behind the numbers lie human stories: encounters, bonds, and renewed hope.
A call for solidarity to sustain our Liège branch
Today, this mission is at risk. As of 2026, the Walloon Region will withdraw a major part of our funding previously allocated through the “Territoire zéro sans-abrisme” programme. Without civic support, our Liège team will be forced to scale back its activities. That means: fewer outreach rounds, fewer follow-ups, fewer lives saved.
Together, let’s raise €70,000 to ensure Liège does not lose a key actor in the fight against homelessness: a team that transforms street survival into housing, exclusion into dignity, and abandonment into a future.
