The end-of-year campaign is a crucial moment for any non-profit. It often determines whether we reach our goals — but setting it up requires significant financial and human investment.

Since 2021, the National Lottery and its 6.5 million players have helped make this campaign possible.

Olivier Alsteens, Head of Partnerships and Corporate Social Responsibility, explains why the National Lottery supports Street Nurses: “Your organisation addresses a problem everyone can see. A visible reality — and one that’s growing. That’s what shocks me. Our society has the means to act, and yet the latest figures show we’re far from ending homelessness. We all wish this problem didn’t exist.”

In just sixteen years, the number of people without a home has increased fivefold in Brussels. The sector is deeply concerned — and dismayed. That’s why our campaign matters so much: it brings together new donors who truly believe that ending homelessness is possible.

And that goal is not a utopia. Olivier Alsteens reminds us: “What you’re doing is sustainable. You reach out to people living on the streets, support them in their recovery journey, and help them find housing that truly fits. It’s artisan work — because each person requires a tailored approach. This innovative spirit places you at the heart of a movement for a better society. We feel very close to you: like you, we put people first.”

As the year comes to a close, Olivier shares a heartfelt message: “While many enjoy warm moments with family, let’s also connect with people living on the street. Let’s be kind and stand in solidarity with our homeless neighbours.”
